Both artists draw on a shared split canvas simultaneously. Live cursors, pencil, brush, shapes, and colors sync with sub-50ms latency across the globe.
Every feature in வர்ணம் is designed to keep you focused on visual creation rather than tweaking menus.
Brushstrokes and cursor coordinates synchronize instantaneously via Firebase Realtime Database WebSockets. Drawing together feels as natural as being in the same room.
Fine pencil, painterly soft brush, geometric shapes (rectangle, circle, line, arrow), text notes, and eraser — all with adjustable size, opacity, and full HSL palette controls.
Made a mistake? Hitting undo only removes your own strokes. Your partner’s creative work is completely isolated and never affected.
Create a room, share a memorable code or direct link, and start sketching immediately. No accounts to manage or contact lists to import.
Works seamlessly on desktop Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge, tablets, iPads, and mobile browsers. Native Android app also available for stylus workflows.
Rooms are private by default. Only users with your exact code can enter. Data is stored ephemerally during your session without permanent tracking.
வர்ணம் (which means "colour" in Tamil) was born out of a simple question: why is it so difficult to simply draw with a friend online without friction?
Most tools are locked behind expensive enterprise subscriptions, heavy software downloads, or complex menus. We built வர்ணம் to make visual collaboration feel as spontaneous and joyful as passing a sketchbook across a table.

Yes! வர்ணம் is 100% free with no subscriptions, trial limitations, or hidden fees. All core features — real-time multiplayer drawing, full tool palettes, and private room sharing — are completely accessible to all artists.
Each room is specifically optimized for two artists on a shared split canvas. This deliberate design preserves low latency (sub-50ms) and gives each person clear creative ownership of their half without clutter or accidental overwriting.
Yes. One-click Google Sign-In securely authenticates both artists, enables accurate per-user stroke attribution for undo/redo, and prevents unauthorized intruders from entering private rooms.
Each user maintains an independent stroke history stack. When you hit Undo (Ctrl+Z), only your own strokes are rolled back. Your partner’s artwork is completely untouched and protected.
Drawing strokes are held in Firebase Realtime Database for the duration of your session. Because sessions are ephemeral, we always recommend taking a screenshot (Win+Shift+S or ⌘+Shift+4) before closing your room.
Yes! The web canvas supports touch and stylus input across modern devices, graphic tablets (Wacom, Huion), iPads, and Android devices. An optimized native Android app is also available.
Absolutely. Educators frequently use the split canvas for 1-on-1 STEM tutoring, math problem solving, and language learning, writing problems on the left while students solve on the right.
